Vanilla Ninja is an all-female Estonian rock band formed in 2002. Since the release of their first album, they enjoyed much success throughout central Europe with a string of hit singles.
In 2003, they attempted to represent their home country of Estonia in that year’s contest, however, despite winning the public vote, they came last with the jury and thus missed out on going to Eurovision.
They were selected internally to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv with the song Cool Vibes, where they finished 8th overall in the final - a placement that is the country's best finish in the final in the 21st century despite the act itself not being Swiss-based. This would be broken in 2019 when Luca Hänni placed fourth overall with She Got Me.
Their 8th-place finish in the semifinal remained Switzerland's best placing in the semifinal era until Sebalter bettered it with a 4th-place finish in his semi in 2014. That record was later equaled in 2019 by Luca Hänni.
Since their appearance, they went through some lineup changes and they performed as a trio until their split in 2008. Lenna participated in the 2017 Estonian selection as a soloist with the song "Slingshot".
