Vânia Sofia Olim Marote de Ribeiro Fernandes, better known as Vânia Fernandes, is a Portuguese singer.
When she was younger, Vânia participated in a variety of jazz competitions and performed in public in both her home island of Madeira and on the mainland of Portugal since 1997.
In 2007, she won Operação Triunfo, a variant of the Star Academy franchise, as well as finishing her studies at Madeira's conservatory, focusing on singing and jazz.
The following year, she won Portugal's Festival da Canção with Senhora do mar (Negras águas) with twice as many votes as a the runner-up, allowing her to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade. Vania was the runner-up in her semi-final, making it Portugal's first qualification in the semi-final era, and placed 13th in the grand final.
