Tetyana Hryhorivna Liberman, known professionally as Tina Karol, is a Ukrainian singer, actress, and television presenter.
Born to a Ukrainian mother and a Ukrainian Jewish father, Tina experienced discrimination in her youth because of her Jewish last name. Under her real name, she participated with the dancing ensemble at the Kiev branch of the Jewish Agency, and her repertoire included songs in Hebrew and in Yiddish. In 2000 she with this ensemble travelled to the United States, where the group’s appearances raised money for Jewish Agency for Israel programs in Ukraine.
At the end of her tenure there, she received a scholarship from the Ukrainian parliament, where she participated in numerous youth, regional, international and Jewish singing contests as well as musicals and theatrical shows. Later, she became a soloist for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Song and Dance ensemble, and participated in the New Wave competition. There, she changed her name to Tina Karol, which she was more comfortable with.
Tina won the casting to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens; the original song, "I Am Your Queen", was changed to Show me your love. Qualifying from the semi-final in seventh place, she also finished in the same position in the grand final. That year, she also released her debut album of the same name.
Three years later, Viktor Yushchenko awarded Karol the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine; Tina Karol also received a number of other accolades, including one of the most influential Ukrainian women. Four years later, she became a coach on The Voice of Ukraine. In addition, she replaced Jamala as one of the jury members in Vidbir 2020, and was later named music director of Vidbir 2025.
