They Can't Stop the Spring was the Irish entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki performed by the group Dervish. After songwriter John Waters (who works as a journalist) publicly complained about his 2006 Eurosong entry not being selected for the Contest, this song was chosen as a means of silencing him.
As the country finished in the top 10 in the 2006 contest, it was pre-qualified for the final. On the night, it was performed 4th following Belarus and preceding host country Finland. At the close of voting, it finished in last place with only 5 points, a first for the country in their contest history.

The curtain has been raised
The wall no longer stands
And from Lisadell to Latvia
We’re singing as one clan
The curtain has been raised
And Europe’s all one stage
And the archipelagic icicles
Have melted like the cage
We don’t need no party
Just a party band
A continental choir
Singing hand in hand
They might scare the blackbird but they cannot stop him sing
They may steal the honey but they’ll never steal the sting
They may crush the flowers, trample every living thing
But they can’t stop the spring
They might scare the blackbird but they cannot stop him sing
They may steal the honey but they’ll never steal the sting
They may crush the flowers and trample every living thing
But they can’t stop the spring
They might scare the blackbird but they cannot stop him sing
They may steal the honey but they’ll never steal the sting
They may crush the flowers and trample every living thing
But they can’t stop the spring
No, they can’t stop the spring
