The Party's Over was the Dutch entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1976 in The Hague performed by Sandra Reemer. It was her second attempt at the contest following a decent result in 1972.
The song is sung from the perspective of a young woman at a party who is attempting to work out whether she should stay or leave. She sings that the party itself is coming to an end, which would suggest that leaving is a good option. If she stays, however, she can at least be in the same room as a former lover who is also present.
It was performed 8th on the night following Ireland and preceding Norway. At the close of voting, it finished in 9th place with 56 points.
Lyrics[]
The lights are low
The party's goin' on
And he who's mine
He doesn't seem to miss me
I feel alone
I think that I'll go home
But if I stay, at least I hear him
The party's over now
The party's over now
At least I dream it's over now
He's sittin' next to me
And we do both agree
Our life ain't bad at all
Yes, the party's over now
One of those bad dreams
Suddenly came over me
But now I feel at ease
The lights go out
The party's goin' on
And he who's mine
Seems really to enjoy it
I hear him whisper sweet words
But not to me
I wonder, am I really dreamin'?
The party's over now
The party's over now
At least I dream it's over now
He's sittin' next to me
And we do both agree
Our life ain't bad at all
Yes, the party's over now
One of those bad dreams
Suddenly came over me
But now I feel at ease
Yes, the party's over now
One of those bad dreams
Suddenly came over me
But now I feel at ease
