"The Grey People"
"The Grey People" was an interval act during the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Choreographed by Fredrik "Benke" Rydman, it involved 18 dancers and a child depicting as a group of refugees travelling by land and sea in search of a safer place. Initially covered in grey paint, the performers later washed the paint off their faces, before coming down the stage to greet the audience. [1]
The performance aimed to "create an artistic and abstract interpretation of the current situation and the challenge that Europe faces today"[1], referencing the European refugee crisis that began in 2015.
Due to rights restrictions, "The Grey People" was shown during the airing of the grand final on LogoTV in the United States instead of Justin Timberlake's performance.
