Sophie & Magaly was a French pop duo consisting of identical twin sisters Sophie and Magaly Gilles. They were best known for representing Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 in The Hague with the song Papa Pingouin, finishing in 9th place.
The song became a big hit in France, however subsequent singles did not fare as well and the duo was dropped from their record label soon after, the act also disbanded.
Magaly passed away on 2 April 1996 from Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) at the age of 31. Her sister Sophie passed away on 27 February 2019 at the age of 54 after battling depression.
