Serbia debuted as an independent entity in 2007, after previously participating as Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro. Serbia had won on their debut entry with the song Molitva, and then getting into the top 15 each year with the exceptions of 2009 and 2013, where they failed to make the final.
Until 2015 when Bojana Stamenov elected to perform her song fully in English, Serbia was one of several nations which stuck to their own language. Despite the former's good result, mixed results in the next two years resulted in a switch back to Serbian for the 2018 contest. The country has also won the Barbara Dex Award twice, in 2010 and 2013.
