Sébastien Tellier is a French singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, who can sing in French, English and Italian.
In 2001, he released his debut album, L'incroyable Vérité, a pop album featuring styles from lo-fi electronica to bizarre cabaret tunes. This became a preview of his eccentric style--its sleeve featured Tellier in full evening dress on the front, while the back of jacket had a shot of him cavorting in a playboy's pool. In addition, he suggested playing the album only by candlelight.
Four years later, he released the album Politics, which featured the hit "La Ritournelle", a string-led tune, which featured Nigerian drummer, Tony Allen who worked with Fela Kuti. "La Ritournelle" was remixed by various artists, notably in Britain by Metronomy; as well used in various media, including the Weeknd's Kiss Land.
His third studio album Sexuality was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk. Like his previous album Politics, Tellier used a single term as title and theme of the album.
He was internally selected to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade with the song Divine. Because the song was mostly in English, it garnered controversy within France and was even brought up to Parliament. Sébastien Tellier's performance was noted for entering the stage driving a small golf buggy branded with the French Tricolour, and carrying a helium filled inflatable globe that he inhaled from. It ultimately placed 19th with 47 points.
