Real McCoy is a German Eurodance group that was founded in 1989. The group is well known worldwide for a string of dance hits in the 1990s.
The group was first only a collaboration between Jeglitza and Juergen Wind, but after the unexpected success of their cover single "Pump Up The Jam", the project evolved into a band.
About[]
Originally the group was called "M.C. Sar & the Real McCoy", but in 1994 they shortened it into Real McCoy.
The follow-up releases after the first single were hip house style records. "It's On You" debuted in 1990 and became a top hit in Germany and a success in other European territories, reaching silver status. The group released many notable singles in between 1990 and 1997, which became European hits.
The group switched between members a lot and the only member that was in all line-ups since 1989 is Olaf Jeglitza.
In 1997, the disappointing commercial sales of their fourth album and it's singles lead to the quick demise of the group, which soon after became a solo project by Jeglitza, that sometimes was joined by non-afilliated singers. A new group, called New Real McCoy debuted in 1999.
They collaborated with Polish group Ich Troje at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens with the song Follow My Heart (although not credited), failing to qualify for the final placing 11th in the semi. It is notable that only Jeglitza went to Eurovision and nobody else from the group.
Soon after the Eurovision performance and non-qualifying, the group took an indefinite hiatus until 2016, when the original singer for the group Karin Kasar came back. Unfortunately, she left after only 4 years.
