Nicole Rieu is a French singer, songwriter, and actress.
After making her debut as part of the group "The Spits" in the 1960s, Lucien Morisse, a member of the record company AZ records, met up with her. Nicole signed a record deal with them in 1969, and started releasing her self-written compositions. Four years later, she got a deal with the larger Barclay label, where she released her first major hit, "Je suis". The following year, she released her debut album, Naissance.
Nicole was internally selected by TF1 to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 1975 with the song Et bonjour à toi l'artiste, after Serge Gainsbourg's song for Dani, Comme un Boomerang, was seen as too violent. It came in fourth place out of 19 songs; she recorded it in multiple languages afterward and extended her reach towards Quebec, Canada.
In 1976, she toured around Europe and Quebec to promote her new album, Le ciel c'est ici. She returned to Canada to record her next album in 1977; in 1979 she won the Grand Prix de la chanson de l'Hexagone d'Or for the song La gout d'eau.
Nicole took a step back from recording in the 1980s to raise her son, though she still writes and records songs, along with collaborating with other artists.
