Sylvie Mestre, professionally known as Nayah, is a French singer.
She started singing at ten years old, idolizing such singers such as Edith Piaf. For six years, she attended the conservatory in her hometown in Perpignan. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she participated in a variety of galas; in 1988, she released her debut album, Elohim. There, she composed the songs within the album.
In 1990, she participated in the Swiss national final with Joël as a duo, coming in second with the song Dites à vos enfants. During that time, she won two music awards and was a finalist of the Rose d' Or with Antibes in 1998.
When she was chosen to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 in Jerusalem, controversy arose about her membership with the International Raëlian Movement, a UFO-based religion. She joined with her husband at the same time her album was released, and she had climbed the Guide levels until she became an assistant guide (Level 3). However, she left in 1996.
Despite the concerns, this didn't prevent her from representing the country; the song, Je Veux Donner Ma Voix, placed 19th in the grand final.
