Mor ve Ötesi is a Turkish rock band based in Istanbul, featuring Harun Tekin on vocals and rhythm guitar; Kerem Kabadayı on drums; Burak Güven on bass; and Kerem Özyeğen on lead guitar. The name comes from a play on the word morötesi, meaning ultraviolet, with the name meaning Purple and Beyond
The band was formed in 1995 while the members (including former bass player Alper Tekin) were students at Deutsche Schule Istanbul. They released their first album in 1996 and performed in Ankara that same year. With the release of their second album, Bırak Zaman Aksın ("Let Time Flow"), they've achieved more success; yet with more political lyrics as a result of the 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake.
They've became more well-known with their fourth album, Dünya Yalan Söylüyor ("The World is Lyring"), relased in 2004. Some people thought it was a new band because their first three albums were not as well-known. Despite containing political criticism, some of their old fans thought they sold out in the process.
Büyük Düşler, their fifth album, took a darker turn due to its lyrics focusing on the political and personal problems of the band at the time.
On 10 December 2007, the TRT announced that the band would be internally selected to represent Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade with the song Deli. After qualifying from the semi-final in 7th place, they also placed 7th in the grand final with 138 points.
