Jessica Cerro, known professionally as Montaigne, is an Australian singer and songwriter specializing in the art pop genre. Their stage name is taken from a 16th century philosopher named Michel de Montaigne.
They started their career in 2014 when they released their debut single "I Am Not the End" and in 2016 released their first album Glorious Heights. They won the ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist - Release that same year.
They won the second edition of Eurovision: Australia Decides. With the cancellation of the 2020 contest, SBS announced that Montaigne would represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song Technicolour, failing to qualify from the first semifinal and breaking Australia's perfect qualification record, finishing in 14th place.
They were one of the five jurors for Australia in the 2022 contest in Turin.
On 10 May 2023, Montaigne came out as non-binary.[1]
Trivia[]
- Montaigne is the first Eurovision artist to perform in the contest remotely via a live-to-tape backup video, as pandemic rules in Australia made it impossible for them and their delegation to travel to Rotterdam.
