Moldova made its debut in 2005 at the contest in Kyiv, Ukraine and finished 6th. Since their first appearance, they've only failed to qualify for the final on five occasions: 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019.
Over recent years, Moldova has come up with some rather interesting and wild performance elements such as images projected onto dresses, eccentric choreography, hair-tearing, and performers wearing pointy hats riding unicycles. In 2010, Sunstroke Project member Sergey Stepanov became an internet phenomenon when his solo saxophone performance during the group's performance of the song Run Away went viral. He became known as the 'Epic Sax Guy'. In 2017, the trio returned and gave Moldova its first top-5 result, finishing 3rd.
In 2022, TRM was scheduled to have a national selection, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic it was decided to instead choose internally among the candidates who auditioned.
