Michael Ball is a British singer, actor and broadcaster. He is best known for originating the role of Marius in the London production of Les Misérables as well as his work in the shows Aspects of Love, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Hairspray.
He was selected internally to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 1992 in Malmo, and the public chose One Step Out Of Time as his entry. He finished second with 139 points, however it was the start of a string of hit albums on the UK charts and ITV gave him his own TV variety series that ran for 2 years. He currently hosts his own Sunday night show on BBC Radio 2.
When asked in the 1993 BBC documentary Nul Points whether he would be interested in doing Eurovision again, he remarked that he'd "rather stick needles in his eyes".
