Lordi is a Finnish heavy metal band founded in 1992 by frontman and costume designer Mr. Lordi. They are best known for the monster masks they wear on stage as well as the horror elements and pyrotechnics they use in their performances.
They have toured the world extensively since 2002, coming to fame with their single "Would You Love A Monsterman?". The group releases a new album every 2 to 3 years.
They remain the first and only hard rock band to win the Eurovision Song Contest when they stormed to victory at the 2006 contest in Athens with the song Hard Rock Hallelujah, winning both the semi and the final with 292 points and ending Finland's 45-year wait for a first win.
A public square in their hometown of Rovaniemi bears their name in recognition of their Eurovision win. Mr. Lordi was the Finnish spokesperson during the 2012 contest in Baku, and the group appeared in the Museum of Eurovision History sketch during the 2014 grand final where they played their song for a group of children who ran away scared and screaming.
Mr. Lordi also made a cameo in the Love Love Peace Peace interval at the 2016 contest in Stockholm. The band also participated in the "Rock the Roof" interval act during the grand final of the 2021 contest in Rotterdam.
