Un giorno mi dirai was the winning song of the 2016 San Remo Festival performed by the band Stadio.
As the winner of the festival's Campioni category, they had earned the right to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. However, they declined the honor as the contest conflicted with a planned tour and RAI then offered the invitation to runner-up Francesca Michielin, who accepted.
The song did go on to some commercial success in Italy, peaking at #3 on the Italian chart.
Lyrics[]
E tu riderai, riderai, tu riderai di me
Un giorno ti dirò
Che ti volevo bene più di me
E tu riderai, riderai, tu riderai di me
E mi dirai che un padre
Non deve piangere mai
Non deve piangere mai
E mi dirai che un uomo
Deve sapere difendersi
Piangendo, tu
Mi stringerai
One day I'll tell you
That I gave my happiness up for you
And you'll laugh, laugh, you'll laugh at me
One day I'll tell you
That I loved you more than I loved myself
And you'll laugh, laugh, you'll laugh at me
And you'll tell me that a father
Should never cry
Should never cry
And you'll tell me that a man
Should know to defend himself
One day I'll tell you
That I gave up of her eyes for you
And you won't understand, and you'll ask me 'Why?'
And you'll tell me that a father
Should never cry
Should never surrender
You'll tell me that a man
Should know to protect himself
One day you'll tell me
That a man abandoned you and that you no longer know
How to breath and how to keep living
I'll tell you that a man
May also make a mistake, you know it
One may make a mistake
But, if it was real love
It was better to live it anyway
But you won't listen to me
I already know that you won't understand me
And you won't believe me
Crying, you'll
Hold me
