Liam Reilly was an Irish singer/songwriter who began his music career in the late 1970s as a member of the group Bagatelle and in the early 1980s he was offered the chance to go solo but refused. He finally decided to go solo a few years later when he moved to Georgia in the US and recorded an album called "Savannah Serenade".
His first attempt to represent his home country at the Contest came in 1988 where Ireland was the host nation but he failed to be selected. He returned two years later, proving more successful and finished in joint second place with France.
He returned to the Contest a second time the following year as a composer of the Irish entry Could It Be That I'm In Love by Kim Jackson, which finished in joint 10th place.
He was one of the five jurors for Ireland in the 2014 contest in Copenhagen.
He passed away on 1 January 2021 at the age of 65.
