Karel Gott was a Czech singer and is considered the most successful male singer in his home country. He has also achieved considerable success in the German-speaking countries, where he is known as "the Golden Voice of Prague".
He represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 1968 in London with the song Tausend Fenster, composed by 1966 winner Udo Jürgens and finished in 13th place.
He passed away on 1 October 2019 at the age of 80.
