About[]
Born to a musical family, Justyna initially studied the violin at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, but switched courses a year later to focus more on vocals. Due to her academic excellence, she played a concert in D minor by Henryk Wieniawski with the Rzeszów Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, before singing with a variety of jazz and rock bands.
Career[]
In 1994, Justyna won at the talent show Szansa na Sukces, where she sang a cover of the song "Boskie Buenos" by Maanam.
The following year, she was internally selected by TVP to represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 with the song Sama. A brooding, introspective song unlike most others in the contest, it was performed first in the competition and placed 18th overall. Nowadays, Eurovision critics say the song was ahead of its time.
In 1996, Justyna released her debut album, Dziewczyna Szamana, which went platinum. In the same year, she won multiple Fryderyk awards for best artist and album of the year. She released her second album in 1997, which received a gold certification. Two years later, she contributed to the soundtrack of Na koniec świata, where she also played the main role. In addition to her original music, Justyna released an album of covers of Jewish songs titled Alkimja.
Beyond music, Justyna was the runner-up in the sixth season of the Polish Dancing with the Stars and was a coach for The Voice of Poland for three editions.
In recent years, she has expressed interest in taking part in Eurovision again, and in 2024, she submitted a song for the Polish internal preselection named "Witch-er Tarahoro", becoming a fan favorite. Unfortunately, she lost to Luna with the margin of 1 point, placing 2nd.
She will represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel with the song Gaja. Her performance in the first semifinal will be exactly 30 years to the day of her appearance in Dublin.
