On 11 December 2023, AVROTROS announced that Joost would represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmo following a TikTok campaign and a petition launched by NPO 3FM with the song Europapa. He had qualified from the second semifinal in 2nd place, but was disqualified from the grand final for violating the contest's rules regarding inappropriate behavior following an investigation into a possible altercation with a member of the Swedish production team.
