James Richard Newman is an English singer and songwriter. He has written for many top artists over the years such as Foxes, Jess Glynne, Little Mix and his younger brother John, and has appeared as a featured vocalist for artists including Don Diablo and Armin van Buuren.
He is the older brother of singer-songwriter John Newman.
In 2014, he won a Brit Award for Best British Single for his work on "Waiting All Night" by the group Rudimental.
He is also one of the writers of Ireland's 2017 Eurovision entry Dying to Try by Brendan Murray.
On 27 February 2020, the BBC announced that James would represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam with the song My Last Breath prior to the event's cancellation. On 19 February 2021, he was announced as the UK representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 performing the song Embers. He finished in last place with the dreaded Nul Points, becoming the first artist in the current split-vote scoring system to achieve this dubious honor.
