Dustin the Turkey is an Irish puppet who has had an enduring music and television career in his homeland since the late 1980s. He first appeared on the children's show "The Den" with Zig and Zag and remained there until the show ended, outlasting four human co-hosts.
He was selected to represent his home country in the 2008 Contest in Belgrade, becoming the first puppet to represent any country in the Contest's history. Despite it being a public vote, there was a mixed reaction from the live studio audience when the he was announced as the winner, including many audible boos. 1970 winner and panelist, Dana stated that the country would be better withdrawing from competing rather than sending him, meanwhile 2007 winner, Marija Šerifović (who was also a panelist) gave her support. However, former Irish participants - Dickie Rock and Maxi believed he could give Ireland their 8th win.
He performed in the first semi final but failed to qualify for the final.
The Turkey made a brief appearance during the first semi-final of the 2023 contest, being interviewed by presenters Hannah Waddingham and Julia Sanina.
