Dori Ghezzi is an Italian singer.
Born in Lentate sul Seveso, Dori got a recording contract with Durium after winning a regional song festival. While releasing a number of hits, along with recording covers of famous French and British songs, she participated in Sanremo for the first time in 1970, but didn't make it out of the semifinals.
In 1972, another artist on the Durium label, Wess, suggested that they record Voglio stare con te, an Italian version of the British United we Stand. After its substantial success, Dori put her solo career on hold and released her work with Wess throughout the rest of the decade. They participated in Sanremo in 1973, placing 6th, and placed 2nd in the same festival three years later.
Two years later, they were internally selected by RAI to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 1975 with the song Era, which placed 3rd overall.
After splitting up with Wess artistically, she and her partner Fabrizio De André were kidnapped in August 1979 by Anonima sequestri (a term referring to Sardinian groups who would kidnap people for ransom), released four months later only after a ransom of 550 million lire. In the 1980s, she focused on her solo career, before retiring from singing in 1990 due to her vocal chords.
After De Andre's death in 1999, Dori has worked to preserve his musical and artistic heritage.
