Dervish are an Irish traditional folk group who formed in 1989 and were joined by lead singer Cathy Jordan two years later. Since forming they have released ten studio albums to date.
They were selected as the country's entrants at the 2007 Contest in Helsinki with a song written by journalist John Waters (who infamously launched a verbal assault towards national broadcaster RTÉ after his Eurosong entry the previous year failed to be chosen). They finished last with five points which were awarded to them by the Albanian back-up jury because of a failed televote. The song and performance is widely regarded by Irish people as the country's worst entry to compete in the Contest along with Donna and Joe's Love?.
In spite of their failure, they continue to perform live to this day.
