Darja Švajger is a Slovenian singer.

After finishing university, which involved some time in Austria, her music career started with the ensemble Brane Klavžar; in the 1980s she sung Slovenian folk songs with the group Slovenska gruda. Starting in 1992, Darja started to work with the Slovene National Theater in Maribor.

The following year, she made her first appearance at EMA with the song Let's See People, which came in second. Also in 1993. the international jury of the Melodies of the Sea and the Sun pop music festival, held in Koper, awarded her first prize in the Slovenian section of the international category. Her debut album was released in 1994.

Darja won EMA with the song Prisluhni mi, which earned her the right to represent Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 in Dublin. It came in 7th place overall, making it Slovenia's best placing entry to date, only tied by Energy in 2001. The song itself became a hit, and Darja won the Singer of the Year Award in 1995 and 1996. She released two more albums during this time.

in 1999, Darja won EMA again with "Še tisoč let", which was later sung at the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 in Jerusalem as For a Thousand Years, making it the first Slovenian song to be sung it English. Despite high hopes, it only placed 11th overall with 50 points.

Along with her status as one of Slovenia's most well-known singers, Darja also is a professor at AGRFT.
