Daniel Popovic, sometimes credited as Danijel, is a Montenegrin-born pop singer well known in much of the former Yugoslavia and most notably in Croatia. He was born of a Montenegrin mother and a Belgian father.
He represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 in Munich with the song Džuli, his triumph at the 1983 Yugoslavian final was seen as a surprise as many saw a Bosnian folk singer as the clear favorite. The singer Bebi Dol also competed with the song "Rudi", which became a hit. He performed well in Munich, finishing in 4th place and the song became a huge hit afterward. In 1984, he performed the song for the Sarajevo Winter Olympics.
Despite the initial success which also involved a collaboration with Lepa Brena on the song Jugoslovenka, his career stuttered through the rest of the decade. He participated in Jugovizija again in 1991, this time for the Croatian broadcaster with the song Daj obuci levisice. It came in second place, only two points behind Bebi Dol's Brazil.
2015 Macedonian representative Daniel Kajmakoski is named after Popovic.
