The island nation of Cyprus made its debut in 1981 and had a very good first showing, finishing in 6th place. Since then, it has participated in every contest except 1988 (due to its entry that year being ineligible), 2001 (relegation) and 2014 (financial problems).
In the semi-final era, it managed to participate in the final 4 times: 3 via qualification and once via placing in the top 12 the year prior. Most of their entries have been sung in the Greek language, however, there have also been entries sung in English and French as well. After a year away, Cyprus announced they would be returning to participate in the 2015 contest in Vienna. In 2018, they reached their best result when Eleni Foureira finished second.
They are most known for habitually swapping 12s with Greece.
