Croatia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 21 times since their debut in Millstreet in 1993. They came in the top ten six times since then, and after 2000, the Croatian entries kept slipping down and eventually failing to place in the final in 2007. They were one of only three countries to never have been relegated, the other two being Sweden and Malta.
The country had a 33% point reduction penalty in 1999 by the EBU when Doris used voices in the backing track of Marija Magdalena, which is against the rules as all singers have to be present on stage singing.
Croatia returned for the 2016 contest in Stockholm after a 3-year absence along with Bulgaria.
