Buranovskiye Babushki is an Udmurtian ethno-pop band containing eight elderly women. They are from the village of Buranovo (Brangurt), Udmurtia, halfway between the Volga and the Urals in Russia. However, only six were allowed to appear on the Eurovision stage due to contest rules. The band performs most of their songs in the Udmurt language.
They represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku with the song Party for Everybody, beating out former winner Dima Bilan in the Russian national selection. They finished in 2nd place in the grand final.
The group had previously participated in their country's Eurovision song selection in 2010 where they finished third. The same year, the group started a fund for the rebuilding of Trinity Church in Buranovo and all of the group's income is donated into this fund.
Their other recorded songs include "Yesterday", "Let It Be" (The Beatles cover),"Smoke on the Water" (Deep Purple cover), "Hotel California" (Eagles cover), "The Star Called Sun" (Zvezda po imeni Solnce), "I Am Beautiful", "Снег-снежок", "Chiborio" and "Бабушки-старушки".
Two members of the group have since passed away. Natalya Pugachyova passed away on 26 October 2019 at the age of 83, while Yekaterina Shklyaeva passed away on 23 July 2024 at the age of 86.
