Anja Nissen is a Danish-Australian singer and songwriter. She is best known for being the winner of the third series of The Voice of Australia in 2014 and has also taken part in various talent shows since she was very young.
She made an attempt to represent Denmark at the 2016 national final with the song "Never Alone", which was a joint favorite along with "Heart-Shaped Hole" by Simone. Both came up short in the superfinal, finishing behind boyband Lighthouse X.
Anja represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev with the song Where I Am, winning Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on her second attempt. She finished in 20th place in the final.
Trivia[]
- In late 2017, Anja became the victim of a catfishing when a singer by the name of Porche Adams stole some of her music (including her Eurovision entry) and re-titled them from words in the lyrics of the song to make it look like her recordings (for example, Anja's song Where I Am was re-titled as "Armour").
The "artist" stole music from other artists including Sanna Nielsen, Leanne Mitchell and Molly Sandén. With help from Anja's fans and the Eurovision community, Porche's website (which offered free downloads of her "albums") and social media accounts were shut down as it was also revealed that photos of Brazilian model/actress Suelyn Medeiros were stolen by the unknown catfisher to use as Porche's visual image.
