Albano Carrisi, otherwise known by his stage name Al Bano, is an Italian singer, actor and winemaker. He represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice with his ex-wife, Romina Power, in 1976 and 1985. Carrisi came back to Eurovision for one final time as a backing vocalist for Jane Bogaert in 2000 for Switzerland.
Early Life[]
Carrisi was born in Cellino San Marco in Southern Italy, and he still lives there to this day. He was named Albano because his father was fighting in Albania for the Royal Italian Army during World War II. Albano has one other brother, Franco.
Al Bano & Romina Power[]
Towards the end of the 1960s, he met up with Romina Power - the daughter of American actor Tyrone Power - and married her in 1970 after starting musical collaborations with her. They performed as Al Bano & Romina Power for almost 30 years, and have been popular in a few countries across Europe through their entries in Sanremo and Eurovision. The duo divorced and split their musical career together in 1999, although they have raised four children together, one of them Ylenia Maria, who went missing in 1994.
